FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Our cognitive training and academic remediation programs often raise many questions from parents. We’ve addressed the most common ones below, but feel free to contact us if you need further information.
• How does the brain training process work, and what results can we expect?
Our brain training process begins with a comprehensive assessment to identify learning difficulties. Based on the results, we create a customized training plan that includes exercises designed to improve cognitive abilities like attention, memory, and processing speed. Using techniques such as the Integrated Practice Protocol (IPP) and addressing primitive reflexes, we strengthen sensory integration and focus skills. Throughout the program, certified coaches guide and support your child. You can expect improved memory, focus, and overall cognitive performance.
• Is the program tailored to my child’s specific learning challenges?
Yes, each program is personalized to meet your child's unique needs. We begin with a comprehensive Systems Of Intellect (SOI) assessment to identify learning difficulties, and then we create a customized training plan targeting the specific areas where your child needs the most support.
Throughout the program, we continuously monitor progress and make adjustments as needed, ensuring that your child receives the most effective and personalized intervention possible.
• How is progress monitored, and how often will we receive updates on our child’s development?
At Mind Discovery, progress is closely tracked through weekly progress reports, continuous assessments, and personalized coaching. Programs like Fast ForWord provide detailed weekly updates, while Play Attention uses an advanced algorithm and individualized coaching to adjust goals during sessions. Parental involvement is key, with supervision of home exercises to reinforce progress. These strategies ensure that your child is consistently advancing toward their cognitive and academic goals.
• How long does it typically take to see improvement in cognitive or academic performance?
You can expect significant improvements within a relatively short period. Programs like Fast ForWord require 40-60 hours of use and can lead to 1-2 years of academic gains. For more comprehensive programs, like Discovery Academy, notable cognitive changes can be seen in as little as six months. Progress is continuously monitored to ensure optimal results.
• Will my child need to complete homework or exercises outside of the sessions?
Yes, homework is an essential part of our program. Students are required to complete exercises at home, supervised by parents, to reinforce skills learned during in-center sessions. This ensures successful integration and continuous progress in their cognitive and academic development.
• What qualifications do the educators and specialists at Mind Discovery have?
Our team at Mind Discovery is highly experienced and certified in various cognitive training and remediation techniques. Led by Brenda Armstrong, M.Ed., with over 25 years in education and intervention, our specialists are certified in programs like Structure of Intellect, Orton-Gillingham, Fast ForWord, and Play Attention.
